Due to the actions of Russian occupiers, Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was completely disconnected from the power grid for the first time ever on August 25, 2022. Now, the ZNPP has restored the connection to the fourth communication line with the energy system of Ukraine, but all 6 power units remain disconnected.

“On August 25, due to fires in the ash pits of the Zaporizhzhia TPP, located next to the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the last (fourth) communication line of the ZNPP with the energy system of Ukraine – PL-750 kV of the ZNPP – “Dniprovska” was disconnected twice. Three other communication lines were previously damaged during the Russian shelling”.
Thus, two working power units of the station were disconnected from the network. Energoatom notes that this is the first complete disconnection of the ZNPP from the power grid in the history of the plant.
The energy supply to the plant was restored later in the day, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
“Ukraine said that during the day, ZNPP at least twice lost connection to the power line but is currently up again. ZNPP remains connected to a 330kV line from the nearby thermal power facility that can provide backup electricity. All 6 units remain disconnected from the grid,” tweeted the IAEA.
