European Commissioner for Internal Affairs Ylva Johansson said in an interview on August 4 that the refugees from Ukraine who moved to the European Union and then decided to return home will be able to enter the EU again at any time during the war.

She confirmed that the European Commission is aware of cases where Ukrainian women, after travelling back to Ukraine, had problems returning to the country where they received temporary protection, and the documents issued by some countries turned out to be insufficient for border guards and travel within the EU.
According to her, the EC is determined to solve these problems and is currently gathering information.
“Everyone who has received EU protection should have the right to go home for a short period to visit parents or family or for any other purpose,” the European Commissioner emphasizes.
She explained that in the case of returning for a long time, Ukrainian women must withdraw from registration in the country where they received temporary protection, but do not lose the right to return and re-register.
“So, if you have used temporary protection in the EU, you have the right to go home for any reason and the right to return to the EU country in which you stayed. Even if before that you closed your temporary protection status. If you are fleeing the war in Ukraine, the doors of the EU are open for you,” Ylva Johansson emphasized.
