Chairman of Ukraine`s Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy has proposed that one of the next NATO Parliamentary Assembly sessions be held in Kyiv, according to the press service of the Rada`s apparatus.
Parubiy asked President of the NATO PA Paolo Alli to ”consider the possibility of holding one of the next sessions of the NATO PA in Kyiv,” the press service told UNIAN.
He shared this idea with Alli during a trilateral meeting, which was also attended by Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze, on the sidelines of the NATO PA 2017 Spring Session in Tbilisi, Georgia, on May 29.
The Ukrainian parliament`s speaker also briefed his counterparts on the situation in Donbas, in particular, escalation amid intensified shelling of Ukrainian positions by the Russian occupiers, and noted that Russia had been amassing weapons in Crimea.
”We believe this is a threat not only to the region but to the whole world. Therefore, the solidarity of the entire world is very important,” Parubiy said.
He invited his Georgian counterpart to visit Kyiv on July 3 and take part in events on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Charter on a Distinctive Partnership between Ukraine and NATO.
”I am convinced that our cooperation with NATO and Georgia will only step up,” Parubiy stressed.
As UNIAN reported, Parubiy is on a visit to Tbilisi, where he is participating in the NATO PA 2017 Spring Session on May 26-29. The agenda of the speaker`s visit also includes bilateral and tripartite meetings, in particular, with the NATO PA`s president and the Georgian parliament`s speaker.
