According to diplomatic sources, Vladimir Putin, the Russian President has embarrassed Western leaders by referring to the nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in a conversation with Emmanuel Macron, the President of France on November 5, 2022.
Sources claim that Putin believed that the bombings, which led to the surrender of Japan and the end of the Second World War, demonstrated that you don’t have to attack major cities to win.
Two atomic bombs were detonated by the United States over Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Nagasaki in Japan on August 6, 1945, and August 9, 1945.
Between 129,000 and 226,000 people, most civilians were killed by the bombings. Japan surrendered to the Allies on August 15.
These remarks were made amid growing concerns that Russia’s leader might be ready to use tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine, while Russian troops suffer increasing setbacks in the war with Ukraine.
“Macron was distinctly alarmed. It sounded like a very heavy hint that Putin might detonate a tactical nuclear weapon in the east of Ukraine, while leaving Kyiv intact. That appeared to be the thrust of his remarks,” a French source quotes the French President.
In addition, Liz Truss, former Prime Minister of Great Britain was increasingly worried that Putin might use a “battlefield” nuclear weapon in Ukraine. According to intelligence agencies, Ms Truss was told that Putin might launch a weapon in the air over the Black Sea. This would show the West his capabilities without triggering a full-scale nuclear war.
“The two presidents have undoubtedly discussed the risk of nuclear weapons use. Putin wants to get the message across that all options are on the table, in line with Russian doctrine relating to nuclear weapons,” a French government source says.
Officials warned that Putin might “go nuclear” after Ukrainian troops hit the road crossing connecting Russia and Crimea. The Russian President said this would “cross the red line” and prompt a “judgment day”.
The security services informed Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zeleskyy that the risk of using nuclear tactical weapons by Russia is “very high”.
Putin stated that if Western forces threatened the ‘integrity of Russian territory, then Russia will use all the resources at its disposal.
In an interview on October 12, 2022, Mr Macron stated that France would not use nuclear weapons to counter a Russian attack on Ukraine.
“France has a nuclear doctrine that is based on the vital interests of the country and which are clearly defined. These would not be at stake if there was a nuclear ballistic attack in Ukraine or the region,” said Emmanuel Macron.
Mr Macron spoke with Mr Zelenskyy for the last time when France agreed to increase the defense of Ukraine’s sky. The French President called Putin to demand a ceasefire in Ukraine and the restoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty, as well as territorial integrity on September 11, 2022.
The revelation about the Hiroshima and Nagasaki comments appeared after Vladimir Putin warned residents of Ukraine’s southern city of Kherson to leave their city, or they will be deported to the territory controlled by Russia.
