U.S. President Barack Obama has said he does not rule out an open incursion by the Russian army into Ukraine.
He said this in an interview with the New York Times.
Obama said that the prospects for a diplomatic agreement that would prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin from invading Ukraine were real, but dimming. He said that this option could not be ruled out.
He also added that “we are at a dangerous time, in part because the position of the separatists has weakened.”
“I think Putin does not want to lose face, and so the window for arriving at that [diplomatic] compromise continues to narrow,” Obama said, adding that “he [Putin] could invade.”
