On April 25, 2015, at 6:30 a.m. the Russia-backed militants shelled the ATO forces’ positions in the Mariupol sector near Shyrokyne village, two Ukrainian soldiers were wounded and one killed.
The pro-Russian terrorists used OSCE observers as ‘human shield’ in Shyrokyne, ATO press secretary Andrii Lysenko reported:
“At the same time, the militants continue to interrupt the work of the international observers at this sector of the demarcation line. In particular, ‘DPR’ militants denied access of the representatives of the OSCE monitoring mission to the eastern part of Shyrokyne village. The observers also reported that their patrol was used as a ‘human shield’ by the militants, who wanted to get to their positions. Due to such daring violations of the cease-fire, the lives of the observers are under increasing danger,” Lysenko said.
On the official Facebook page OSCE SMMU – Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine was reported:
“Today once again SMM has been prevented by the so-called “DPR” from freely accessing the eastern part of Shyrokyne.”
Alexander Hug: “These are unacceptable interference with the mandate of the SMM and jeopardize the process of establishing the demilitarized zone. Access for the OSCE SMM is not a subject for negotiations. It’s the Mission’s duty and task”.
