Ukrainian President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Petro Poroshenko has ordered the chief of the General Staff to cease fire from 18.00 on September 5, the presidential press service has reported.
“Based on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s call to the leaders of illegal armed formations in Donbas to cease fire and the signing of a protocol at a meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on the implementation of the Ukrainian president’s peace plan, I order the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to cease fire from 18.00 on September 5,” Poroshenko said.
He also instructed the Ukrainian foreign minister, jointly with the OSCE, “to ensure effective international control over the observance of the ceasefire that should be exclusively bilateral.”
Poroshenko expressed hope that these agreements, “including the ceasefire and the release of hostages,” would be strictly observed.
