The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko has said that a petition was sent to the Kyiv Pechersk District Court for permission to convict former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and former Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Eduard Stavytsky in absentia, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
”As for Azarov, we have completed the investigation and submitted to the Pechersk court a petition for permission to convict him in absentia. The same applies to Stavytsky – we have completed the investigation and are waiting for the relevant permission from the court,” Lutsenko said during the international roundtable in Kyiv.
As UNIAN reported, Azarov and Stavytsky are involved in a number of criminal proceedings in Ukraine.
Stavytsky worked as energy minister in Ukraine December 2012 through February 2014 in Mykola Azarov`s government.
He is charged with large-scale embezzlement through misuse of office or by an organized crime (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Interpol issued a red notice for his arrest in 2014.
Some media reported that Stavytsky was detained in Israel on May 6, 2016. He denied the reports, calling them a fake.
Stavytsky reportedly lives in Israel under the name Nathan Rosenberg.
