“Norway is making one of the largest contributions to the medical evacuation program for civilians during the war in Ukraine. The government has now decided to accept wounded soldiers as well,” said Norwegian Minister of Justice and Emergency Emilie Enger Mehl.
Injured soldiers will be accepted as part of Norway’s contribution through the EU Civil Contingency Mechanism (UCPM) within the previously decided framework of 550 patients in the Medevac scheme.
There has been a need to ensure that it is within the regulations to include wounded soldiers in the medical evacuation scheme.
Norway is said to have a high level of expertise in the treatment of burns, injuries and rehabilitation at Helse Bergen, Oslo University Hospital and Sunnaas Hospital. The high professionalism of Norway in these areas was especially noted by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking before the Storting.
