The new sanctions are in line with those recently introduced by the EU. The Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt said that they were being introduced to maintain pressure on the Russian government and supporters of Russia due to their war against Ukraine.
“The extended sanctions are a necessary reaction to Russia’s brutal warfare and the illegal annexation of regions in Ukraine. The sanctions are becoming increasingly comprehensive, and are a strong and clear European reaction to Russia’s actions in Ukraine. The opportunities for conducting trade with Russia are now severely limited and involve high risk,”the Norwegian Foreign Minister emphasized.
Norway has imposed new sanctions against 30 individuals and seven organizations, including several entities involved in the so-called Russian referendums in the occupied regions of Ukraine. In total, this list includes more than 1,260 people and 115 legal entities.
Additional export restrictions on coal, electronic components, aviation equipment, chemical industry, and small arms to Russia are introduced; import restrictions will be imposed on steel, engineering products, plastics, textiles, clothing, leather products, chemical products, and non-gold jewellery from Russia.
The port ban will apply to all ships certified by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.
