“The Secretary General and President Obama also focused on Russia’s aggressive actions in Ukraine. They agreed that the full implementation of the Minsk agreements is the “path to peace”, and urged all parties to work towards this in good faith. Mr. Stoltenberg stressed that NATO is strengthening Ukraine’s ability to defend itself, and affirmed that the Alliance is committed to supporting its other partners across Europe,” states the NATO’s Press Center.
Recently General Stoltenberg said that NATO provided political support and helped Ukraine with defence reforms. Although, the Alliance, cannot decide on supplying weapons to Ukraine, because “this is not within the competence of the Alliance member countries’ governments”:
“If Ukraine applies for NATO membership, the application will be considered just like any other one. The decision on whether Georgia and Ukraine should be granted membership will be made by 28 NATO countries,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
