The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin noted on April 19, 2023, that more than 60 cases of rape of Ukrainian civilians were documented in the Kherson region, sexual violence was used as a political and military tactic by Russian troops.

“In Kherson, as in other cities, sexual violence was also used as a political and military tactic by Russian military. This was done in order to humiliate and break the resistance of the civilian population. We documented more than 60 cases of rape in the region,” explained the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Andriy Kostin informed that the investigation into the fact of forcible deprivation of liberty, constant rape and humiliation of residents of the Kherson region for 4 months is ongoing.
Law enforcement officers are also investigating cases of rape of minors. Russian serviceman kidnapped a minor from the house in the presence of her mother and grandmother and raped her in one of the villages of the Kherson region.
“Law enforcement officers are also observing a trend of rape, torture and sexual harassment against family members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” added the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Andriy Kostin emphasized that one of the most heinous crimes committed by Russia is forced displacement of civilians.
