According to the official, it is currently unknown how many people were forcibly displaced, detained in Russia, separated from their family members, dead and buried.
According to Matthew Halliday, the figure of 15,000 people is optimistic, considering that 25,000 people died or went missing in Mariupol (east of Ukraine) alone.
Matthew Halliday believes that the process of investigating the missing in Ukraine will last years even after hostilities end.
“The numbers are huge, and the challenges facing Ukraine are huge, as Ukrainians are at war with Russia,” emphasized the representative of the International Commission on Missing Persons.
