Among the areas of support for Ukraine, first of all, there will be acquisition, in particular, this includes a contribution to the international fund for Ukraine that is intended to finance heavy weapon purchases. The military support will include the repair and transfer of weapons and military equipment, military training and education, rehabilitation of soldiers, expert support in defense reforms, and strengthening of cyber security.
“The weapons, equipment and other military support that we and other countries provide make a critical contribution to how the war unfolds. Ukraine’s fight is our fight, we must adapt to the changing needs of Ukraine and continue to try to keep the volume of support from decreasing”, says the Minister of National Defense of Lithuania Arvydas Anušauskas.
In connection with the ongoing hostilities, the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania plans to purchase and transfer to Ukraine additional Lithuanian-made equipment: night vision devices, thermal imagers, means to combat drones. It is also planned to purchase additional equipment for Ukrainian soldiers, and new sets of equipment will be given to military personnel undergoing training in Lithuania.
“Military training and education will take place in a bilateral and a multilateral format. In 2023, a total of about 1,500 Ukrainian soldiers are planned to be trained, some of them will be trained in Lithuania within the framework of the EU military training mission for Ukraine. The rehabilitation of wounded soldiers in Druskininkai will also continue,” added the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Defence will continue to provide expert support through participation in the activities of both the EU Cyber Rapid Response Team and the Regional Cyber Defence Centre. Ukraine’s representatives will take part in the Kaunas-based training of cyber security experts.
