“As of February 24, 2022, the total installed capacity of Ukrainian wind power plants (excluding the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea) was 1.67 GW – in fact, like two nuclear power units. But the war started. Almost all wind power plants in the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Mykolaiv regions have been in the front line or occupied zone since the first days. According to preliminary estimates, losses from destroyed, damaged or stolen equipment of wind farms amount to more than 50 million euros. More than 500 million euros were lost due to forced downtime,” noted the Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine for European Integration.
According to Yaroslav Demchenkov, 80% of Ukraine’s wind power generation is disabled or captured today, and projects for the construction of 11 land-based wind farms with a total capacity of almost 1 GW have been put on hold due to the war.
