Journalist says Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine allegedly lenient with Russian banks

Journalist and economic expert Oleksandr Dubinsky says Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeryia Gontareva was too lenient with Russian banks set to expand their presence in the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions (ORDLO), also known as the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk People`s Republics, ”LPR” and ”DPR,” according to his Facebook page.

”I would like to ask the presidential administration to fix a very unfortunate blunder! When Petro Oleksiyovych [Poroshenko] claims that Gontareva is the best banker in Eastern Europe, he is deceiving all of us out of ignorance. He is belittling Valeria Gontareva`s merits, as she showed long ago that she could even do better. In fact, she is the best banker not only in Eastern Europe, but also in the young `republics` – the `DPR` and `LPR,`” Dubinsky wrote on Facebook, commenting on reports that Russia`s Sberbank has begun to serve customers with ”DPR”/”LPR passports.

Dubinsky claims that Russian banks have only benefited from the NBU governor`s activity.

”Thanks to her wise leadership and support that the National Bank provides to the state-owned banks of the Russian Federation in Ukrainian territory, they have been able to expand their business to the ORDLO. Russia`s Sberbank has already happily announced that it has started servicing customers who provide passports issued by the so-called `DPR` and `LPR.` And if a client bearing a passport issued by the `DPR` or `LPR` can be serviced in Moscow, how could a subsidiary bank refuse to service such a respected client in Ukraine?” the journalist wrote.

”Thank you, Valeria Oleksiyivna [Gontareva], for one more step towards recognizing the `republics.` Descendants will certainly evaluate it. I hope – through a jury trial,” Dubinsky summed up.
