The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyy met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Matsuda Kuninori on December 8, 2022. Denys Monastyrskyy thanked Japan for the project of international technical assistance to the State Emergency Service and communities of the Kyiv region of Ukraine worth 4.5 million dollars.

At the meeting, one of the main topics of discussion was the humanitarian demining of liberated territories, which is extremely critical for Ukraine.
“With the support of the Japanese government in cooperation with the UNDP [United Nations Development Programme – ed.], a new project of international technical assistance was launched in Ukraine with the participation of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and a number of communities in the Kyiv region with a total cost of 4.5 million US dollars. It is planned to provide the pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service with cars, armored vehicles, metal detectors, and other special equipment,” said the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has also started cooperation with the State Emergency Service in the field of demining. The agency is working on the possibility of starting a grant project to provide technical assistance to Ukrainian emergency workers in the period of 2023-2024. In particular, all-terrain vehicles for pyrotechnicians, mechanized demining machines, metal detectors, quadcopters, excavators-planners, bulldozers, motor graders, buses will be provided.
