Interpol has officially turned down the appeal by the Russian Federation to put on the international wanted list former prime minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Ukraine`s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov wrote on Twitter Wednesday.
Posting a copy of Interpol General Secretariat`s notice stating that the data contained in the NCB Moscow`s diffusion concerning Mr Yatsenyuk ”would not be in conformity with Article 3 of Interpol`s Constitution,” Avakov tweeted: ”KBG provocation failed.”
According to earlier media reports, a municipal court in the southern Russian town of Yessentuki in Russia issued an arrest warrant for former prime minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk. Yatsenyuk was charged with alleged participation in an armed group attacking Russian troops in the Russian North Caucasus region of Chechnya in the mid-1990s.
The law enforcers claimed Yatsenyuk allegedly killed as many as 30 Russian troops and wounded another 13 soldiers during the hostilities in Grozny.
In an earlier comment, Arseniy Yatsenyuk said ”the Kremlin has hit rock bottom,” calling ”nonsense” the accusations brought against him and suggesting that such a move by Russian authorities came as a result of his clear anti-Russian political stance.
