“Today, when Russia is again committing aggression against Ukraine, it is very important to call historical events by their proper names… The Presidium of the Government of the Chechen Republic – Ichkeria decides: To recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as an act of genocide of the Ukrainian people,” the decree says.
The decree states that throughout history, Moscow has tried to destroy Ukrainians under the guise of friendship and “fraternal nations”. One of the examples of this is the artificially created famine of 1932-1933, which took up to 7 million lives of Ukrainian peasants. Not only grain was taken from the peasants but also all foodstuffs and even what could be exchanged for food, condemning them to starvation.
“In Ukraine, the Holodomor is perceived as an act of genocide of the Ukrainian people, inspired by the government of the USSR. The Chechen people deeply understand and sympathize with the struggle of Ukrainians for independence. Our peoples have the same goals and a common enemy,” noted the government of Ichkeria.
In addition, the Chechen people are grateful to the Ukrainian people, the President of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for recognizing the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation, and condemning the genocide of the Chechen people on October 18, 2022.
