ICC Prosecutor inspected the sites of Russian war crimes in the Kyiv region

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported on March 1, 2023, that Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin together with Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim Khan inspected the sites of war crimes committed by Russian troops in the Kyiv region.

“During the visit, Andriy Kostin and Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan inspected the sites of Russian war crimes in the Kyiv region, and infrastructure objects destroyed as a result of shelling. In particular, they visited an apartment building in Vyshhorod, which was fired upon by the military of the aggressor country [Russia – ed.] in November 2022,” informed the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

As noted, Andriy Kostin and Karim Khan discussed opportunities for increased cooperation, difficulties and challenges that have to be faced and ways to overcome them.

The Prosecutor General of Ukraine emphasized that the opening of the ICC office in Kyiv will make cooperation even closer.

In March 2022, the International Criminal Court started its own investigation into Russian war crimes in Ukraine, after the completion of the investigation, the case will be referred to the International Criminal Court.
