US President Joe Biden had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on January 5, 2023. During the negotiations, Scholz said that Berlin intended to hand over the Marder infantry fighting vehicles and the Patriot air defense battery to Ukraine. The USA will provide Ukraine with Bradley infantry fighting vehicles.

“President Biden and Chancellor Scholz expressed their common determination to continue to provide the necessary financial, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support to Ukraine for as long as needed. To this end, the United States intends to supply Ukraine with Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, and Germany intends to provide Ukraine with Marder Infantry Fighting Vehicles,” noted the White House.
In addition, Germany and the USA plan to train Ukrainian troops to operate these systems.
In addition, Joe Biden and Olaf Scholz confirmed their intention to continue supporting Ukraine’s urgent needs for air defense.
“In late December, the United States announced its donation of a Patriot air defense missile battery to Ukraine. Germany will join the United States in supplying an additional Patriot air defense battery to Ukraine,” added the White House.
The leaders of the two countries also applauded the ongoing coordination efforts of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and welcomed additional donations of air defense systems and combat vehicles.
