Generals holding talks in Donetsk region at president’s request – Poltorak

The joint center for controlling and coordinating issues of the ceasefire and stabilizing the contact line between the parties is operating at the request of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to find a mechanism for the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
Ukraine’s Defense Minister Colonel General Stepan Poltorak told this to reporters in Kyiv on Thursday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“It’s not about who is holding talks, generals or politicians. The main thing is to have peace. Such a group [the joint center] was set up and is operating at the request of the Ukrainian president in order to achieve the purpose of implementing the Minsk agreements,” he said.
He said that terrorist groups in Donbas were not fulfilling the Minsk agreements, therefore the joint center “is working out mechanisms to ensure the implementation of the agreements reached in Minsk.”
“As to when it happens, I hope it happens in the near future,” Poltorak said.
He also said that the members of the joint center were working out the mechanism for the implementation of the Minsk agreements, rather than holding any new negotiations.
