EU to give Ukraine EUR 2.5 mln for humanitarian aid

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has said during a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko that the EU is ready to allocate EUR 2.5 million for humanitarian aid to Ukraine, the press service of the head of state has reported.
Barroso also called for the creation of a special coordination mechanism for the provision of humanitarian aid and transportation of displaced persons.
Poroshenko and Barroso also discussed the initiative on an international humanitarian mission for Luhansk under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Barroso supported this initiative.
The sides also discussed energy cooperation and the resumption of gas negotiations in a trilateral EU-Ukraine-Russia format.
Barroso also said that he was considering visiting Kyiv to attend the Yalta European Strategy international conference in early September.
