“This list covers key figures in Russia’s brutal and deliberate missile strikes against civilians, and the kidnapping of Ukrainian children to Russia,” said Ursula von ver Leyen.
This package, the ninth since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, increases the pressure on Russia, adding almost 200 more individuals and entities to the sanctions list. Among the persons subject to sanctions are the Russian military, members of the Russian parliament, and defense industry enterprises.
“1. Almost 200 more individuals and entities added to our sanctions list. 2. Sanctions against 3 more Russian banks. 3. Cutting Russia’s access to drones, directly and through potential third country suppliers like Iran. 4. New export controls, particularly for dual-use goods that could be used by the Russian war machine,” Ursula von der Leyen explained about new restrictions on Russia.
The EU will also target the Russian propaganda machine with 4 additional channels being taken off the air.
“Additionally, we suggest more economic measures against Russia’s energy and mining sectors,” said the President of the European Commission.
