EU countries must coordinate defense issues, – EU High Representative

From the events surrounding Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the European Union concluded that it is necessary to eliminate shortcomings in its own security and defense system, as well as closer coordination in this area, which belongs to the exclusive competence of each country.

“Today we will talk about defense, about how to increase the defense capabilities of the European Union and its countries. As you know, defense belongs to the competence of member states, and member states have created a European Defense Agency to review the results. We have to do more, but we have to do it all together.”

“We should increase our military spending, but it is worth doing in a coordinated way. It will not be easy, because the army and military capabilities are the basis for any sovereign state, so trying to combine efforts to develop the army will require good political skills. What we have learned from the war in Ukraine is that it is not enough to trade, to have the rule of law, it is not enough to be a powerful civilian force. We also need to be a military force.”
