Three Iranian individuals and one legal entity were sanctioned for undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. The corresponding decision was made because of Iran’s role in the development and delivery of unmanned aerial vehicles, which are used by Russia to attack Ukraine’s infrastructure and civilians.
“Today’s decision is a signal of the EU’s resolve to respond swiftly and decisively to Iran’s actions supporting Russian aggression against Ukraine. The EU condemns the delivery of Iranian drones to Russia and their deadly deployment in the war of aggression against Ukraine. The EU will continue to respond to all actions supporting Russian aggression, ” says the European Council.
Sanctions include the freezing of assets. Also, citizens and companies from the EU are prohibited from providing financial means to individuals and legal entities of Iran that have come under sanctions. Individuals will also be prohibited from traveling to EU member states.
At the same time, the Council of the EU declares its intention to introduce restrictive measures against two more persons and two companies on the same basis.
As stated in the Official Journal of the EU, sanctions have been imposed against three Iranian citizens – Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, the Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, Sayed Hojatollah Qureishi, the Head of the Supply, Research, and Industrial Affairs Division at the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics, and Said AghaJani, involved in the Iranian drone development program.
The company Shahed Aviation Industries, responsible for the design and development of Iranian kamikaze drones, was also sanctioned.
