EU Ambassadors have confirmed the agreement between the EU Council and the European Parliament (EP) about the ”visa waiver suspension mechanism” between the EU and third countries.
This particular solution was a condition for a positive decision on granting Ukraine and Georgia a visa-free regime.
The EU Council told an UNIAN correspondent in Brussels that the decision was taken following a meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of EU member states (COREPER) in Brussels on Wednesday, December 7. According to the EU Council, the Committee of Permanent Representatives on December 7 confirmed the compromise text agreed with the European Parliament to revise the suspension mechanism, which can be applied to all existing agreements on liberalization of the visa regime.
The relevant agreements were reached between the EU Council, the EU Parliament and the EU Commission on Wednesday.
After that, the decision must be voted by the European Parliament and the EU Council.
