According to the Minister, Estonia will propose to include a full energy embargo on Russia, new groups of goods and the final disconnection of Russian banks from SWIFT in the eighth package of sanctions.
“We must seriously raise the price of aggression for the aggressor before the approach of winter. The seven previous packages proved insufficient to push Putin to end the war.”
Estonia will also propose to ban Russians from entering the EU.
“More than 10 million citizens of the Russian Federation now have the right to enter the European Union. Someone has to take the first step. I hope we will be able to reach a pan-European agreement on some kind of wording.”
He emphasized that the Kremlin was trying to play on Europe’s war fatigue.
“We have to say that this is a vain hope. We are ready to help Ukraine and put pressure on Russia, so much is needed so that it is forced to retreat. It is very important to show determination,” Urmas Reinsalu emphasized.
