Estonia no longer issues tourist visas to Russians, but the current decision means that Russian citizens with valid Schengen visas will not be able to enter the country either.

“In a week from now, the sanction will be applied to Schengen visas issued by Estonia. Visa holders from Russia will be subject to restrictions. They will be denied entry to Estonia,” he said.

He added that the adopted decision foresees exceptions. Entry will be allowed to employees of diplomatic missions in Estonia and members of their families, persons engaged in international cargo and passenger transportation, persons who have the right of free movement in accordance with EU legislation, persons whose entry to Estonia is necessary for humanitarian reasons, and also to close relatives of persons who have Estonian citizenship or a permanent residence permit in Estonia.

Reinsalu said that Estonia had data on more than 50,000 valid Schengen visas issued to Russian citizens.
