EP, EU Council reach deal on visa liberalisation with Georgia

”Good news:we reached a deal wt the EUCouncil @eu2016sk for visa liberalisation wt Georgia! Shared commitment to deliver asap!” the EU visa liberalization rapporteur, Mariya Gabriel, tweeted Tuesday.

This week, the governing institutions of the European Union are expected to agree on a draft legislative decision on a visa waiver for the citizens of Georgia, according to Europeiska Pravda.

At the same time, the Slovak EU Council Presidency tweeted:

”Good news for #Georgia`s citizens: political agreement b/w EUCouncil & Europarl_EN on Georgia visa lib. Next step @EUCouncil soon.”

It was earlier reported that Georgia may be granted a visa-free regime with the EU ahead of Ukraine. However, there were also reports that the provision of visa liberalization for both Ukraine and Georgia could come in one package.

On December 8, European Parliament`s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) approved a bill on the introduction of a visa waiver suspension mechanism for the third countries.
