Department of State: ‘Normandy format’ an opportunity to implement Minsk agreements

The United States positively assesses the possibility of a meeting in the Normandy format in Astana if it contributes to the process of peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, envisaged in the Minsk agreements.
U.S. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said this at a press briefing in Washington on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“Our view is certainly that any opportunity to take further steps forward to fulfill – for Russia and the separatists to fulfill their Minsk commitments, and ultimately move closer toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, is positive,” she said.
When asked about the U.S. involvement in these negotiations in any capacity, including as an observer, Psaki said that there are no plans for the U.S. participation.
At the same time, she said that the United States will monitor these discussions.
