A convoy of 280 trucks of the Russian Emergencies Ministry has left the suburbs of Moscow and is heading to Ukraine, ITAR-TASS has reported.
The trucks are carrying 2,000 tonnes of food, medicines and drinking water.
President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, said that Russian servicemen were not engaged in escorting the cargo.
As reported, Putin in a telephone conversation with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso tried to prove the need for urgent delivery of humanitarian aid into the conflict zone. However, Barroso warned Putin of military action against Ukraine under a “humanitarian” cover.
