Commander of Russia`s Air Assault Battalion was killed in Syria

Major Sanal Sanchirov, Commander of Russia`s Air Assault Battalion, was killed in action in Syria, according to Meduza media outlet.

The officer was buried in the village of Yashkul in Russia`s Kalmykia region December 13, Meduza reported.

The information was confirmed by the village administration.

First reports on the death of the Russian officer emerged in social networks December 12. There came no official confirmation by the Russian Armed Forces. The Defense Ministry has not commented on the case.

Major Sanchirov served in military unit No.745076, that is the 56th Separate Air Assault Brigade located in Kamyshin, Volgograd region.

The circumstances of the officer`s death remain unclear.
