During the meeting, the Prime Ministers also discussed Japan’s priorities during the G7 presidency and the importance of further coordination within the G7 framework to maintain the rules-based international system amid new global challenges.

“They [Prime Ministers of Canada and Japan – ed.] will maintain close cooperation between G7 members to denounce Russia’s unjustifiable and illegal aggression against Ukraine, and to protect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” noted the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada.

The politicians also shared concerns about the wider global impact of Russian military aggression against Ukraine, given rising food, fuel and fertilizer prices.

“They committed to working together, including with G7 partners, to find practical ways to mitigate these impacts, particularly for the most vulnerable people, and to address their significant implications for the Indo-Pacific region,” added the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada.
