The Defense Minister of Canada Anita Anand noted on January 26, 2023, that Canada would hand over 4 modern Leopard 2 tanks from its warehouses to Ukraine.

According to Anita Anand, Canada will also provide spare parts for the tanks, as well as training to the Ukrainian military on the basics of how to use the Leopard 2.
“During my visit to Ukraine last week, I told Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov that Canada will continue to provide Ukraine with the military aid that it needs to fight and win. Today’s announcement is proof of our enduring commitment. In coordination with our Allies and partners, we will supply Leopard 2 tanks, sustainment, and training on their use in response to Ukraine’s urgent requests. Canada stands firmly with Ukraine in defense of freedom and democracy,” informed the Defense Minister of Canada.
The Canadian Defense Department clarified that Ukrainian tankers would undergo training on the territory of a “third country”, where Canadian instructors would be posted.
