“We are participating within the framework of the European Union in supporting Ukraine with the help of the European Peace Fund. On the one hand, this is done by providing weapons and ammunition. Now 2 billion euros have already been allocated. We are a neutral country,  so we can not help with arms and ammunition. But the Austrian contribution is protective helmets and bulletproof vests,” the Chancellor said in response to a question from an agency correspondent about possible assistance to Ukraine with protective equipment.

The head of the Austrian government stressed that Austria continued to stand with Ukraine and seeks to provide it with practical assistance within its capabilities, in addition to statements of solidarity.

On May 24, the EU Council decided to increase military aid to Ukraine by another 500 million euros, bringing the total amount allocated for Ukraine’s defense needs under the European Peace Fund to 2 billion euros.

EU member states can use the funds of this fund to purchase weapons and military equipment, personal protective equipment, and first aid kits for Ukraine.
