Kateryna Chuyeva, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine reported on March 15, 2023, that more than 1,200 objects of cultural heritage were damaged or completely destroyed in Ukraine as a result of the full-scale invasion of Russia.

“The situation is difficult. Today, according to the data provided by the regions, more than 1,200, almost 1,300 objects of cultural infrastructure have been damaged or completely destroyed. And about 500 monuments of cultural heritage, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine objects of cultural heritage in different regions. We are talking here about immovable cultural heritage,” said the Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.
Kateryna Chuyeva noted that Russian troops took out parts of the museum collections from those territories of Ukraine that were under occupation, in particular from the Kherson region. In addition, there are cases of loss of private collections.
Kateryna Chuyeva also emphasized that the preservation of those objects of cultural heritage that remain in their places or were moved requires special attention. Any movement of the museum collection or other monuments is risky and may harm the objects of cultural heritage.
“International support is very important for Ukraine in matters of moving or preserving objects of cultural heritage,” added the Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.
