Ukrainian Defense Minister Colonel General Valeriy Heletei has made a working visit to the sites of deployment of Ukrainian Armed Forces units, the Defense Ministry’s press service has reported.
In particular, he met with the staff of the 24th Aidar territorial defense battalion and heard a report by the commander of the battalion.
As a result, the minister announced the decision to engage the battalion more intensively in fulfilling the combat tasks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces as part of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) in eastern Ukraine.
This unit will receive additional weapons, including military equipment, and instructors.
The personnel will undergo re-certification, and those meeting the requirements for military personnel will be selected.
This will help create in future on the basis of the Aidar volunteer battalion a unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces that will conduct special operations, the press service reported.
