Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna said on September 25, 2022, within the framework of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, that about 1.5 million deported Ukrainians could not return to Ukraine from Russia. Most of them are women and children and have no contact with their relatives.

“Today, more than ever, it is important to use all available international tools for the protection of fundamental human rights and redouble our joint efforts to prevent the violent exploitation of Ukrainian citizens.”
Russian soldiers force Ukrainians to pass through the so-called filtration camps before deporting them to Russia. Ukrainian citizens are interrogated and forced to undress to check their tattoos. Russians often use force against them. Some people do not return from such filtration camps.
In addition, Russian troops abduct and deport Ukrainian children, who are then given up for illegal adoption in Russia. The procedure of such “adoption” involves the destruction of all documents and information about the birth parents and allows a name change.
According to the US, Russian troops deported from 900,000 to 1.6 million residents of Ukraine.
