In the framework of the 23rd OSCE Ministerial Meeting on Thursday, Dec. 8, in Hamburg, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier discussed the possibility of strengthening the security component of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, according to MFA Ukraine press service.
A corresponding reinforcement is to be provided in order to ensure effective monitoring and verification of the implementation of Minsk agreements.
Klimkin stressed the need for a continuous monitoring by the SMM along the demarcation line and the mission`s presence in the uncontrolled sector of the Ukrainian-Russian state border in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Separately, the importance was stressed of monitoring by the OSCE and its independent institutions in the temporarily occupied Crimea, taking into account serious human rights violations on the annexed peninsula.
