“A special mobile group, which has already visited the region twice, is engaged in clarifying these facts in the Kherson region. The group includes prosecutors, police officers, psychologists and Global Rights Compliance experts. During December 7-11, they visited liberated settlements and documented cases of crimes committed by the Russian military. The previous visit took place in October 2022,” said the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Forced nudity, rape, electric torture of the genitals are among the most common facts of the conflict-related sexual violence.
“Our main task is to reveal the facts of sexual violence committed by Russian troops. We receive such information during communication with the population, heads of communities, and local medical personnel,” noted Andrii Khursa, head of the department of precinct police officers of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kherson region.
The mobile group was accompanied by experts from Global Rights Compliance – an organization specializing in international humanitarian law, criminal law and the protection of people’s rights in conflict zones around the world.
“We hope to continue working together to improve the practice of investigating and prosecuting sexual crimes,” Global Rights Compliance experts said.
