There are ten police buses on duty near the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, where elections of the new head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate will be held today.
According to the Internet publication Apostrophe, in the Lavra lane, there are about three hundred enforcers in full gear, helmets, body armor and shields.
In the morning, a meeting of the Narodny Rukh of Ukraine (NRU) party (People’s Movement of Ukraine) was held near the Lavra.
According to head of the Kiev organization of the NRU Viktor Horbach, activists advocated the creation of a single local Orthodox Church, and asked the clerics about this.
“If the church is on our territory, it should support Ukraine. In normal states, the church, which opposes the country, would be banned just as a terrorist organization,” Horbach said.
