The Ukrainian ex-Minister of Finance Kolobov is arrested in Spain for financial crimes of Yanukovych regime

The ex-Minister of Finance of Ukraine Yuriy Kolobov is the first minister from Yanukovych’s adminstration to be detained by Interpol.

The Ukranian Interior Ministry reported on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, that Yuri Kolobov has been detained in Spain, in Altea, a hilltop village on the Mediterranean coast, where he lived:

“We confirm the information that [Mr Kolobov] has been detained,”states the Interior Ministry

Yuriy Kolobov served under ousted pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych over 2012-2014 years. He is accused of misappropriation of over 220 million hryvnia($8.5 million/7.6 million euros) in public funds with Ukraine’s former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov. Yuriy Kolobov committed crimes under Section 5, Article 191 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code which deals with gross appropriation of property and embezzlement and court in Kyiv issued a warrant for his arrest in January 2015.
