U.S. Sen. John McCain expressed ‘ashamed’ of his country’s strategy for Ukraine

On Sunday, February 22, 2015, U.S. Senator John McCain said on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” he’s “ashamed” of his country, President Obama and himself for not doing more to help Ukraine in its fight to fend off pro-Russian terrorists.

“This is a shameful chapter. I’m ashamed of my country. I’m ashamed of my president. And I’m ashamed of myself that I haven’t done more to help these people,” the Arizona Republican said. “It is really, really heartbreaking.”

Actually, as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Armed Services he urged the Obama administration to provide lethal weapons to the Ukrainian forces.

“The Ukrainians aren’t asking for American boots on the ground. That’s not the question here. They are asking for weapons to defend themselves,” underlined Mr. McCain. “They are being slaughtered and their military is being shattered.”

“I believe that German chancellor and president of France legitimized for the first time in 70 years the dismemberment of a country in Europe. It’s shameful. Vladimir Putin has not paid any price,” added U.S. Senator.

Earlier John McCain and Lindsay Graham accused the world leaders in legitimizing the dismemberment of a sovereign nation in Europe and made the statment on developments in Ukraine that was published on the official website of the senator John McCain. .
