Gunmen continue to shell the village of Maryinka, 5 kilometers southwest of Donetsk, even despite evacuation of local children, Red Cross says.
First aid group leader of the Red Cross Taras Lohinov told an Ukrinform’s reporter.
“The government-run voluntary evacuation of children from Maryinka started on January 26. The Ukraine’s Interior Ministry has asked gunmen to cease shelling during evacuation. Unfortunately, this request was not satisfied. However, the evacuation process continues,” Lohinov said.
As a background note, Maryinka is located near Donetsk and it is controlled by the Ukrainian authorities.
