World leaders support Minsk agreements

French President Francois Hollande, U.S. President Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzo held a video conference on Wednesday during which they unanimously supported the Minsk agreements of September 5 and called for the resumption of national dialogue and further decentralization in Ukraine.
This is stated in a statement released by the Elysee Palace, Ukrinform’s correspondent reported.
“As for Ukraine, the heads of state and government stressed the importance of full and effective implementation of the Minsk protocol of September 5, including guarantees for a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of armament, control over the Ukrainian-Russian border by the OSCE, and the subsequent release of prisoners,” reads the document.
The leaders of states also called for the resumption of national dialogue and further decentralization in Ukraine. They also noted that a meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko as part of the ASEM summit in Milan on October 16 -17 would provide a new opportunity for a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.
