Yatseniuk says what will stop Russia’s blackmail

Only a common approach by Ukraine and the European community to solving the gas issue will help resist Russia’s blackmail.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said this while opening the 12th meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Energy Community in Kyiv on Tuesday, Ukrinform’s correspondent reported.
“There is a very big challenge for Ukraine and the European Union countries that ratified the third energy package. We understand that Russia is a key supplier of natural gas to the European Union and Ukraine. But we understand that if we work together, if we are united and if we develop transparent market rules, no country, including Russia, will use natural gas as a weapon against our country,” Yatseniuk said.
Yatseniuk recalled that a few months ago the Ukrainian side proposed a market-based approach to Russia, which it, however, declined. Therefore, Ukraine filed a lawsuit against Gazprom.
“But it takes time. Therefore, we will unite with the European Commission to resolve this problem. This should be a common approach and a common decision,” Yatseniuk said.
