After the necessary reforms are conducted in Ukraine and the necessary criteria are achieved, the question of the country’s joining NATO will be resolved by the Ukrainian people.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said this at a NATO alliance in Wales on Thursday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“When the country meets the membership criteria, then the Ukrainians will decide when it happens, and how,” he said.
Poroshenko said that “the war in the country’s east is no excuse for not conducting reforms.” He said that early parliamentary elections should speed up the reform process in Ukraine.
