U.S. sends tanks to bases in Poland and the Baltic states at deterring a possible Russian aggression

On Friday, January 6, 2017, 87 tanks and 144 military vehicles, equipment began arriving by sea from the USA in Bremerhaven, Germany, as part of the North-Atlantic alliance’s program aimed at deterring a possible Russian aggression.

“This is the biggest delivery of a U.S. armored tank brigade to Europe since the end of the Cold War, and over the coming days the military equipment will be sent by train from Germany to bases in Poland and the Baltic states,” states the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Three and a half thousand American troops of the fourth Infantry Division from the Fort Carson base in Colorado are to be deployed along NATO’s eastern frontier. In 2017 the U.S., Britain, Germany and Canada plan send four battalions, four thousand troops that will be stationed in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, as well as Bulgaria and Hungary.

The new forces will gather first in Poland, then fan out across seven countries from Estonia to Bulgaria, while a headquarters unit will be stationed in Germany.

NATO members are increasing their presence in Eastern Europe. Great Britain sends fighter jets to the Black Sea area. A battalion of troops, tanks and light armour to be deployed to Estonia in spring 2017, backed by French and Danish troops. Germany plans to send forces and tanks to Lithuania.
