Release of hostages, escalation near Svitlodarsk to be discussed in Minsk on December 21

The release of hostages, the opening of the Zolote exit and entry checkpoint, as well as the aggravation of the situation at the Svitlodarsk arc will be discussed at the meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk on December 21, 112 Ukraine TV channel reports.

”The meeting of the four working groups will begin, and at 14:00 local time (13:00 Kyiv time), the main round of talks will be held together with the OSCE representative, Martin Sajdik. The exchange of prisoners is in the main focus. The issue of whether 228 militants can be exchanged for 58 Ukrainian hostages will be decided today,” the report says.

In addition, the negotiators will discuss the increase in the number of attacks at the Svitlodarsk arc and the village of Stanytsia Luhanska, where constant shellings are reported. The opening of the Zolote checkpoint is also on the agenda.

It is expected that all members of the Ukrainian delegation, headed by Leonid Kuchma, will arrive in Minsk.

The information that Ukraine plans to release 15 militants from the list on the exchange as a gesture of goodwill has not been confirmed yet.

Earlier, the Anti-Terrorist Operation Headquarters reported that the combined Russian-separatist forces had made an attempt to dislodge the Armed Forces of Ukraine from their positions at the Svitlodarska Duha, resulting in five Ukrainian soldiers were killed.
